Effective Registration Date
Copyright registration is considered “effective” (i.e. the copyright is considered registered) on the
date the U.S. Copyright Office receives the application, deposit material and filing fee regardless of
how long it then takes to process the application and mail the certificate of registration.
You Do Not Have to Wait
When you file for copyright registration, you do not have to wait to receive your certificate before you publish or produce your work, nor do you need permission from the Copyright Office to place a copyright notice on your material.
